If you touch the leaves of this mimosa, it immediately folds up all of its foliage. To predators, it immediately looks like old, dried-up, unlucky green stuff and is not eaten. After about half an hour, the plant has built up the correct cell pressure and is back to normal.

Mimosa pudica, In Latin pudica means shy, bashful or shrinking. Mimosa is also called sensitive plant, sleepy plant, action plant, touch-me-not, shameplant. Mimosa is a creeping annual or perennial flowering plant of the pea/legume family Fabaceae. It is often grown for its curiosity value: the compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched or shaken, defending themselves from harm, and re-open a few minutes later.

  • Use Well-draining loamy soil for ideal results.
  • Likes to be in bright light, ideally by windows.
  • Pudica doesn’t like heat, keep it temperatures below 30 Celsius.
  • Sensitive plant likes to have high humidity, which means spray water on leaves regularly.
  • Keep soil Consistently moist but not soggy.
  • Diluted high-potassium liquid fertilizer every two weeks
